History
Ferman W. Perry served in World War II as a combat engineer. After the war, Mr. Perry attended the University of Virginia and earned a degree in civil engineering. Upon returning home to Winchester, Virginia after graduating from UVA, a unique opportunity became available to Mr. Perry. A gentleman who had retired to Florida had a backhoe, dump truck and septic tank form sitting on a lot outside Winchester. Mr. Perry reached out to the gentleman in Florida and he agreed to sell the equipment to Mr. Perry. In 1950 with his wife, Kathryn Perry Werner, they formed Winchester Building Supply. At first, Mr. Perry was pouring septic tanks and completing installs. By 1951, Mr. Perry formed Perry Engineering, which started doing site work and yes, septic tank installs. Winchester Building Supply focused on pouring septic tanks, and as they expanded, added burial vaults and other miscellaneous products to their specialties. By 1970, Winchester Building Supply was producing sanitary and storm products along with septic tanks and burial vaults.
Ferman W. Perry passed away in June 1987, which was a great loss for Winchester Building Supply. After his death, Kathryn Perry Werner carried on leading WBS. In time, the torch then passed to Mr. Perry’s son, William M. Perry (Mike), who now leads the company. The next generation, grandson Ferman W. Perry II (Wil), is already involved at WBS in the engineering department. Wil is following in his grandfather’s footsteps and studying to be an engineer. He will one day step into the role of leading WBS.
We are all about family at Winchester Building Supply. Mike Perry brought on Stephen and Patrick Rodgers in June of 2014 to help expand the company’s offerings. This father / son team has a combined 70+ years of experience in the above and below ground precast concrete industry. In 2017, Winchester Building Supply rebranded to Winchester Precast to more closely align with our products and markets.
In December, 2022, Evercast™, a leading specialty precast and prestressed concrete producer in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States, acquired Winchester Precast.
Winchester joined six other companies under the Evercast umbrella to service customers from the mid-Atlantic region all the way down the East Coast to Florida, including a western-facing footprint capable of serving Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio. The acquisition is part of Evercast’s acquisition strategy to provide quicker, more reliable service to its customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States.
We know a lot has changed in 65 years. Winchester Precast started out making precast concrete septic tanks. Now, the company makes a variety of precast concrete products and offers a wide array of services. Only two things keep you in business for that long: quality products and excellent service. Those two things will never change at Winchester Precast because our core comes from Ferman W. Perry, the World War II combat engineer who had the militant spirit of the Greatest Generation to get things done right the first time.
